WHAT'S CIS?
CIS stands
for Character In Service. While education about
character is very important, we believe true character
must be practiced—or put in service. Therefore,
we focus on both education and action!
Through
the CIS program, students will have the unique opportunity
to see how significant their character is. Students will
not only see the local impact their character
has on people in their home, school and community, but
they will also see the global impact their character
has on children in a third-world country!
The CIS program
builds a partnership among local students, local community
leaders and the children in the MWP School in Darfur,
Sudan. The CIS curriculum* teaches local school children
about a “Lost Boy” of Sudan named Victor Deng. Victor
will teach the students about life in Sudan and will introduce
them to some of his friends: the Sudanese children in
the MWP School.
Then students will
have the exciting opportunity to actually meet Victor!
Victor will share with the students in the classrooms
about the importance of choosing good character and how
their character will impact the lives of the children
in Sudan through the CIS program.
But we don't
leave it to mere talk, we teach action! Students are encouraged
to put their Character In Service (CIS) in their home,
school, and local community; in return, they receive Character
Merits. These Character Merits
represent the global impact that the students'
local action has on the children in Darfur, Sudan.
This global impact is made possible through the school's
sponsor. A leader of strong character in our community will
choose to encourage local students by donating to the children
in Sudan in honor of the local students' hard work to earn
Character Merits . Therefore, our students see how their
local action has a global impact.
